Why use Catering & Hospitality Internet Job Boards?

With the latest figures reporting that there are now over 85% of UK homes having a computer and almost 100% of those have their own internet access which is why more people are turning to the 'Net' to find jobs. Previously we would have looked in the local job centre or perhaps the nation spreadsheet newspapers but now we have the luxury of sitting in our front room with the TV on, accessing various Job Advertising Boards online where we enter the details that best match our requirements and then let the job advertisers come to us!

The UK hospitality industry is huge. It is worth billions of pounds to the British economy each year! Generally people eat out more, use hotels more as they travel more and as a result expect the highest possible level of service. So how can the industry attract the best chefs, concierges, front of house staff, retail managers, waiters, hotel managers, bar staff etc? We use internet Job Boards more now than ever before and it is set to continue. With their ease of use, cost effectiveness and an increasing variety of quality candidates posting their CVs onto them, this seems like the way forward for busy HR Managers and company owners looking for fresh talent.

How does it all work?

There are two fundamental parts to a job adverting website. The ‘Candidates’ (people searching for a new job) and the ‘Employers’ (the people who are looking to employ someone). From the Candidates side, there is usually no charge for using the service. They will usually create a job seekers profile with a Username & Password and then log on to search for the jobs that interest them, sending off their CV and then waiting for a response and hopefully an interview. There will often be other advantages for the Candidate where they can store their CV within the site, create and save a covering letter and keep a track of all the jobs that they are interested in and also the ones that they have already applied for. How do you search for a job? The candidates will enter various details that will determine the type of adverts that are shown. For example, they might enter a ‘Job Type’ or ‘Key Word’ Sous Chef, then a location, West London, then a ‘Minimum Salary’ £26,000. The Job Site will then produce results that match those criteria giving the job seeker a selection of jobs to apply for. It really is that simple!

What about the Employers?

They will also create an Employer profile with a Username & Password where they can log on to the site to place their advertisements. Depending on the job site, they will either buy jobs slots in ‘Packs’ or ‘Bundles’ per month for example 3, 5, 10, 20 etc or advertise as many as they wish and be invoice monthly.  The Employers also have many other benefits when using a job site such as being able to store CVs in their profile, keep a track of how many job adverts they have used that week / month and also look at statistics in order to see how a particular advert is performing. This is done by being able to see how many potential candidates have looked at an advert and how many have actually applied. This will give them a good idea as to whether they should change the wording, headline or structure of the advert in order to gain more applications from it. When a Candidate applies for a job and sends their CV, as well as being held in the Employers profile it is usually also delivered straight to the Employers chosen email address. This is an instant process, giving Employers real-time benefits to filing their vacancy and it can be a far cheaper and a more cost effective method of advertising than using magazines, journals and newspapers who sometimes charge thousands of pounds for just one advert.

So is this the future of job advertising?

It is certainly looking that way and is certain to remain the best and most cost effective way of getting lots of applications for your vacancy. People are sure to keep on using the conventional means of advertising but the smart people will undoubtedly access the 'Net'.
