Members Club Jobs:

A members club is a place where people go to socialise and who usually pay a subscription each year to join and use the facilities which might include anything from a gym to a bar and conference facilities / meeting rooms. There is usually a bar and food on offer as either bar snacks or from a restaurant. Food quality will range, depending on the type of establishment from basic to a full on 'A la carte' meal with perhaps 7 courses and a tasting menu or even a Michelin star restaurant.

As far as job opportunities go within members clubs, there are various possibilities ranging from chefs positions through to bar staff, waiters, sommeliers, cleaners, restaurant managers, kitchen manager, operations managers, accounting, administration, finance, porters, pastry chefs and many more. Because they are quite often self funded operations, the salaries can range widely for the same position and some will pay considerably more than expected to attract the best people to keep their members happy.

Training while working in a member club is often quite limited, however if it's a high class club, due to an often high calibre or employee working there for example a Michelin starred chef, it can be quite advantageous for anyone looking to obtain a job. Many of the celebrity chefs on TV and working in top restaurants around the work will have had a job in a members club at some point in their careers.

It's important, as when looking for any job, that you do your research into the club / operation before you go to an interview so that you appreciate and know in advanced all about the job, what type of club it is, the quality of food / range of facilities they offer, so that you're fully prepared and there are no surprises.
