The New York Times has added Beirut to its highest rated 44 destinations to go during 2009. The capital of Lebanon is being described the Paris of the Middle East. Fighting and violence has receded as higher profile food businesses and restaurants have opened and given the city a new lease of gastronomic life. The Lonely Planet has also listed Beirut in its "Best in travel '09" guidebook.
Doha Four Seasons score highly...
The Four Season hotel and resort operator are to begin building of a 2nd hotel in Doha at the Pearl-Qatar Masa Arabia Island according to recent reports. It is said that it will be a 300 bedroom hotel hosting 4 restaurants, a spa and fine conference and banqueting facilities. It is said that leading design consultants WATG are to construct the hotel.
Robots?
Some people say that Robots will become a more prominent part of daily living in the not too distant future, while others are more skeptical. However, a restaurant in Nuremberg in Germany has become the world's first fully "Robot-run" operation. The restaurant is apparently quite basic but familiar in setting. When customers arrive at their table, they are greeted by a touch screen where they can place their order and all information will be sent t o the kitchen. The meal will arrive via a slide from the kitchen to each individual table. The restaurant does have one human employee however who keeps an eye on things and ensures a trouble free dining experience. Nice to know then that humans are still need!
Carluccio's continue expansion in difficult times...
With 41 outlets in the UK and Ireland, Carluccio's said it to continue its "measured international expansion program" during the credit crunching 2009 with franchises set for up to six countries in the Middle East. The countries weren't named but the company do have an advantage in these difficult times as they differ from other types of restaurants combining a cafe setting with a retail section for Italian foods allowing them to stay open for longer than some competitors.
