Chefs Job Description - Development Chef:

A Development Chefs job is to work on continually furthering ideas and fine tuning products through to completely revamping or developing new ideas and lines. This can be within a main kitchen environment working with fresh food through to a frozen product and also within a patisserie or pastry section.

Costing is a big part of a development chef's responsibility. In most cases the final product will need to be sold and a margin or profit needs to be realised in order for the company or organisation to be successful in what they are trying to achieve. Above all, a development chef needs to be creative when it comes to the tasting of the product and also needs to have visual flair. As they say, people eat with their eyes first!
